Learning about the environment through observing and imitating those who have experience is quite normal, and children are a perfect example of that, after all, the world is big and can be intimidating. Having a reference may minimise the fear of the unknown.
Even as we grow to be adults, we seem to be needy of references, as we go from one developmental stage to another. We learn by looking and imitating others, which is good (most of the time depending on the references). Since we are on a journey of discovery, looking to find who we truly are. Hence in that journey, lies also the danger of comparing ourselves to others, our peers at school, at work, socially, etc.

Bill Gates' statement is profound! I wonder how he felt when he failed some of the subjects while his friend excelled at all of them. Imagine if he was comparing himself with that friend, and measured his self worth with the fact that he was failing at that stage in his life, what it would have done to his self-esteem? It must have not been an easy experience for him as a student.
And today, being at a different stage in his life, he's definitely not like the student he was, he learnt how to be successful through his failures!
Lesson?
- If today you are not passing all your "subjects", don't focus on the guy who is passing all his "subjects"; as it may be his time to shine but not yours.....
- Life keeps showing with consistency that people who are truly successful weren't always great in everything, they just discovered that one little thing that changed everything!
- ..................................................................................( you can add your own conclusion) :)))
Till Next time
