OPPORTUNITIES GALORE

South Africa is one of the most fortunate places to live in the world. It may not be the richest country and may have its own challenges as a country yet the fact is that it is a great country filled with many opportunities.

Yet, how can a country with so many opportunities have such a high level of unemployment?  Over thousands of vacancies are being advertised daily through newspapers,  recruitment websites, etc., yet this does not even begin to reduce the statistics. There may be other contributing factors that affect these statistics, but today, I will only address those that the job seeker can do something about.

How prepared are you to take advantage of opportunities?  If for example there are a 1000 other candidates wanting the same opportunity that you are also focusing on, is there anything different that you are doing that will allow the opportunity to be yours?

Being part of the recruitment industry is really being an eye opener as to how opportunities are wasted daily, and the usual culprit is lack of preparedness.

Preparedness is key.

Say for example, you have been sending your CV's to countless number of companies, and you do get responses.  They would like to see you for assessments or even an interview. Since majority of companies conduct assessments on skills (Microsoft packages, English, Maths, and other basic skills needed, etc.) depending on the job description of that vacancy. The more complex the job description then more complex skills will be tested. But today, I would like to focus on the basics.  How are your basic skills?  Do you have basic skills? These are simple questions that can make a huge difference in a candidate seeking employment. The basics are like a foundation, how will you start building if there is no foundation?  Irrespective of your level of education, prepare for the opportunity so that when it present itself, you are ready to meet it.

Remember that the workforce is very competitive, but so are most things in this life!

Whether you have a degree, diploma or a matric certificate, all these are just tools to get you where you would like to be, but if you are not ready with all those tools...... bye bye opportunity....

Work on the basic skills, research new packages that are being implemented, catch up with the rest of the workforce! So that when an opportunity arise, you can answer: "Here I am"!

Remember that the workforce is very competitive, but so are most things in this life!

Much Luv,
Mo
